Artisan makers bring unique value to our communities through their dedication to craft and creativity. Each month, we highlight one exceptional artisan whose work stands out for its quality, originality, and passion. This May, we celebrate an artisan whose story and creations inspire both fellow makers and admirers of handmade art. This post gives you a little peek into the life of Victoria Rose and how she came to create the beautiful artwork she creates.

Handmade by Victoria Rose

Crafty by Nature

Born and bred in Lincoln and a genuine ‘Yellow Belly’, I have had the privilege of spending all of my childhood and most of my adult life surrounded by our beautiful countryside. From a very early age I have used nature to inspire my creativity, from painting watercolour miniatures of wild flowers to collecting pine cones for Christmas decorations, and who doesn’t enjoy collecting shells at the beach? Although I work full-time, I have always been crafty in my spare time, mostly painting, sketching and card making although I’ve given most things a try!

I first started creating my pebble pictures in 2018 when I held a charity craft and coffee morning, where they were very well received. This led to family and friends ordering bespoke pictures for gifts and the launch of my small business. Hand painted drinking glasses, alcohol ink paintings and home decorations also now form part crafting of my collection.  I attend craft fayres close to Lincoln and always really appreciate the lovely compliments from customers and love being part of the crafting community.

How to Support Artisan Makers

Supporting artisans like Handmade by Victoria Rose means valuing the time, skill, and care that go into each piece. Here are ways to engage with and support artisan makers:

  • Buy directly from makers: Purchasing from artisan markets, studios, or online shops ensures fair compensation.

  • Attend craft fairs and workshops: These events offer opportunities to learn about the craft and meet the makers.

  • Share their stories: Promoting artisan work through word of mouth or social media helps raise awareness.

  • Choose quality over quantity: Investing in handmade items reduces waste and supports sustainable consumption.

By choosing handmade, you contribute to preserving cultural heritage and encouraging creativity.

Handmade by Victoria Rose will be at Champagne & Ginger for the whole of May. We are open every Saturday 10am to 2pm
