Amanda aka Ginger Moon is our Artisan Maker of the Month for the whole of July at Champagne & Ginger. If you could smell the shop right now, you would know how beautiful your home would smell having any one of her creations in it - and that's without lighting a single candle. Amandas story is a very familiar one but one that has lasted through Covid and beyond and is a thriving brand and business and we are very honoured to have her in our shop for July.

The pandemic changed many lives in unexpected ways. For Amanda, it was a time of deep challenge and reflection that ultimately sparked a new beginning. Being clinically vulnerable during lockdown meant isolation and uncertainty, but it also opened the door to a passion that transformed her life. This is the story of how Amanda’s love for home fragrance grew into a thriving brand, fueled by creativity, resilience, and the memory of someone very special.

Facing the Challenges of Lockdown and Vulnerability

When the pandemic hit, Amanda found herself in a difficult position. Being clinically vulnerable meant strict isolation to protect her health. The usual routines disappeared overnight, replaced by long days at home with limited social contact. This isolation brought feelings of loneliness and uncertainty about the future.

Amanda recalls how the silence of lockdown was both a burden and a strange kind of gift. Without the distractions of daily life, she had time to reflect on what truly mattered. Yet, the challenge of staying positive while shielding was immense. The fear of illness was constant, and the lack of physical connection weighed heavily.

Despite these hardships, Amanda discovered a small spark of hope. She realized that creating something beautiful and comforting could help her cope with the isolation. This realization planted the seed for what would become her home fragrance brand.

Discovering a Passion for Home Fragrance

Amanda had always loved scents and the way they could change the mood of a room. Before the pandemic, this interest was a quiet hobby, something she enjoyed but never pursued seriously. Lockdown gave her the time to explore this passion more deeply.

She began experimenting with essential oils, waxes, and different fragrance combinations. The process was both challenging and rewarding. Each new scent was a small victory, a way to bring warmth and comfort into her home during uncertain times.

The motivation behind starting the business was simple yet powerful: Amanda wanted to create scents that made people feel safe, calm, and happy in their own spaces. She saw home fragrance as a way to connect with others, even from a distance, by sharing the joy of beautiful aromas.

Learning, Experimenting, and Creating Unique Scents

Starting a home fragrance brand was not easy. Amanda had to learn everything from scratch — from sourcing quality ingredients to understanding the chemistry of scent blending. She spent hours reading, watching tutorials, and testing different formulas.

The experimentation phase was full of trial and error. Some scents didn’t work as expected, while others needed tweaking to get just right. Amanda kept detailed notes, refining her recipes with patience and care until she found that special recipe that were perfect for her wax.

Amanda stopped using essential oils and discovered that blended fragrance oils were ideal for her wax. She sourced British-manufactured plant-based wax, which is a blend of soy, coconut, rapeseed, and beeswax. She uses British-manufactured oils that are not diluted with any solvents, ensuring they are of the highest quality. These elements together guarantee a natural, clean burn with excellent scent throw.

One of the most joyful parts of this journey was the creative freedom. Amanda loved mixing unexpected combinations like lavender with citrus or vanilla with spice. Each candle or diffuser became a unique creation, reflecting her mood and inspiration.

This hands-on process gave Amanda a sense of purpose and accomplishment. It was a way to turn vulnerability into strength, using creativity to build something meaningful.

The Role of Family and Friends, Especially Rosie

Amanda’s journey would not have been possible without the support of her loved ones. Family and friends encouraged her every step of the way, offering practical help and emotional support. Among them, Rosie stood out as a special source of inspiration.

Rosie was Amanda’s closest friend and a constant cheerleader. Even during the toughest moments, Rosie believed in Amanda’s vision and helped keep her motivated. Her kindness and encouragement made a lasting impact.

After Rosie passed away, Amanda decided to honor her memory through the brand. Each fragrance now carries a piece of Rosie’s spirit — a reminder of friendship, love, and resilience. This tribute adds a deeply personal layer to the business, connecting every product to a story of hope and remembrance.

Building a Brand with Heart and Purpose

Amanda’s home fragrance brand is more than just a business. It is a reflection of her journey through vulnerability to victory. Every candle and diffuser tells a story of overcoming challenges and finding joy in creativity.

The brand focuses on quality, using natural ingredients and sustainable packaging. Amanda believes that caring for the environment is part of caring for people’s homes and well-being.

Customers often share how the scents bring comfort and calm to their own lives. This feedback fuels Amanda’s passion and drives her to keep creating.

Amanda’s story shows how difficult times can lead to unexpected opportunities. By embracing her passion and leaning on the support of loved ones, she transformed lockdown isolation into a thriving creative venture. Her journey reminds us that even in vulnerability, there is strength to be found.
